Home Preparation Guide

Here are some quick tips for getting your home ready and putting it on the market for sale:

  • All rooms – convert rooms back to their original purpose.
  • Kitchen – Showcase your counter-tops by removing any clutter and put away small appliances.
  • Bathrooms – Thoroughly deep clean to make them shine.
  • Home Office – Create a nook for either a home office or a homework station.
  • Living Room & Family Room – Make the living room look spacious by removing some pieces of furniture – especially large pieces.
  • Attic – Donate or sell any items you no longer need.
  • Garage – Clean out all clutter by throwing out unnecessary items and for the items you like to keep, rent a storage unit so that buyer can see that their cards can actually be parked in the garage.
  • Landscaping – Keep the grass trimmed and edged; trim shrubs and plants and consider putting in some seasonal flowers to liven up your landscaping with color.
  • Paint – When the time comes to preparing your home for the market, painting is one of the most cost-effective improvements a homeowner can make, while providing an excellent return on your investment.
To Do list

TO-Do List

  • Fix all items needing repair
  • Thoroughly deep-clean your entire home – Buyer love the look and smell of a clean home!
  • Replace all light bulbs with the highest wattage possible by either using LED or fluorescent bulbs for lower power consumption.
  • Start pre-packing as this will make your move much easier and at the same time it will create more visual space.

Maintenance & Improvements

  • Maintenance/Repair – Take care of faulty systems, leaky roofs and broken tiles, etc. If buyers see that things are either not working or in poor condition, it will be a bid turn off and you can risk losing a sale
  • Home Improvements – Replacing your old counter tops and your old appliances with new stainless-steel appliances and replacing your old worn-out carpeting will also help.

Tips that work

  • Focus on the front entrance to create a great first impression
  • Remove excess furniture to create more visual space
